Location: Seattle, Washington
This contract involved the construction of four construction pits bound by cylinder piles and reinforced concrete wall; two pits located in the Olive Way Interstate Route 5 (I-5) northbound off ramp and two pits located in the Pine-Pike Reversible HOV ramp.
ORA was engaged to provide geotechnical construction monitoring services, as well as construction inspection and materials testing services for the following items:
- Tieback grout
- Soil compaction
- Asphalt compaction
- Reinforced concrete
- Controlled density fill (CDF)
- Structural steel fabrication and erection
- Nondestructive testing of welds
In addition to our specific inspection tasks, ORA provided a daily report documenting site activities to include equipment used, subcontractor activities, materials received, etc. Due to the project logistics and fast-track schedule, ORA’s personnel were working two to three shifts – day, swing, night – as required. Testing and inspections were performed in accordance with Sound Transit, City of Seattle, and WSDOT Standard Specifications.
